Box-LabelsStorage Tips

Determine the packing accessories you need:

Paper, bubble wrap, tape, rope, pallets, skids, file boxes or storage cartons. Most of these items are also available for sale in our stores.

Label boxes:

Keep a simple list of your labeled boxes at your home or office for easy reference when you need to find something.

Plastic-ToteFill containers and boxes to capacity:

Partially full, irregularly balanced, or bulging boxes may tip or collapse. Protect your fragile items with packing and place them near the top of your storage space so they won’t be crushed.  We recommend using plastic storage totes over boxes, especially for heavy items, because they are more durable and will stack together more securely.

Pack carefully with ventilation:

Leave air space around the edges to aid in ventilation. Don’t lean items up against the walls if there’s a chance it could fall over. Leave a walkway down the middle of your unit to the rear of your space for easy access. Use all the space available, including the height and place frequently used goods near the door. Ensure your boxes are marked with the labels facing your walkway.

Appliances:

A refrigerator or freezer should be completely dry and stored with its door slightly ajar. Some items can be stored inside large appliances. Boxes can be stacked on top of stoves, refrigerators, and freezers. Make sure that stoves and cooking equipment are cleaned before they are stored.

Bicycles and Metal Items:

To help retard rust, wipe all metal surfaces with a rag containing a few drops of machine oil.

Storing Lawn and Garden Equipment

When storing lawn and garden equipment, make sure to drain any fluids prior to storage in order to avoid corrosive damage. Use trash cans to store shovels, hoes and rakes.

Locking System

Always use high quality locks on your unit. Our storage facility sell locks on-site; ask the front desk for details.
